I apologise for my last post which was, quite frankly, rather miserable. I would like to update this week with slightly more enthusiasm.
My excuse for the negativity is that Big Seymour, who usually just ploughs on regardless, had finally, after a long time, started huffing with frustration. The Celotex had finished him off, and he’d had enough.
Never fear, though! Plasterboarding – an almost equally fiddly task, came to the rescue, because it may be fiddly, but it is a greater sign of progress, and for that, I love it. It turns rooms into usable, enclosed spaces, and you can see the shape of things to come. Literally!
We now have nearly three actual bedrooms. And yes, there is still a bit of Celotex to stuff in upstairs, but not much, and with the weather warming up, the days getting longer and the delivery of a new kitchen, we are really cooking with gas.
Yes, you read that right – a new kitchen! OK, so it’s not really new. But it was free. And it wasn’t delivered – Big Seymour and I had to go and get it. But with a lick of paint and a few clever carpentry tricks, it might just do, for now at least.
Combine that with our new (eBay) Rangemaster oven and we really are starting to see the beginning of the end. Whatever that means.
All of this positivity is rather timely. The Four Little Seymours are just beginning to show signs that they REALLY need their own space – they bicker about NOTHING and steal each other’s stuff. Boy snores like a train, Mini has had a bad night cough and I’m amazed anyone has got any sleep at all. The Sky box is dead, we have no decent programmes to watch, the DVD player won’t work and I have spots.
I’m under no illusions that we are nearly finished, though. The End is currently unfathomable. There are lots of things to worry about – building-related and otherwise. Namely, Little Seymour Number One is off to France next week, on her exchange trip. This is a big deal, for her and I. She may be all tall and grown-up looking but she’s only little really, and I hope she’ll be alright…
Little Seymour Number Two is ten today! Crikey, another birthday in The Shed. There is stuff everywhere – more so than usual, and it makes me miss simple things like a mantelpiece to put cards on, or a dresser even, or maybe just an inch of spare space!
One thing is for sure, my interior design synapses are waking up as the spring approaches, and there are so many exciting things that we will be able to try on our blank canvas that is The Funny Little Bungalow. I wonder, can I get away with Quentin Blake wallpaper again? Has my Lloyd Loom chest of drawers survived storage? And will I convince Big Seymour that the fireplace, having endured the build, is here to stay?
Watch this space…
