Oh gosh. Never mind the crumble season.
The Jumble Season is upon us.
The Four Little Seymours are ecstatic.
They missed the first one, due to an unfortunate clash on the calendar, but on Saturday, off we went, Big Seymour (who is yet to rediscover his building mojo) included, to see what we could find.

We came home to The Shed with:
A Dyson (£8)
A fabulous pair of bookends – very 1930s (50p)
A Fisher Price Pull- Along Dog, circa 1965 (free)
A barbecue mitt (20p)
A whistling kettle (20p)
A sun lounger (expensive at £1)
A standard lamp stand (free)
Four wine glasses (50p)
A musical Rapunzel necklace (10p)
A Wow Toys helicopter (20p)
An ice hockey stick (free)
A facetious kitchen sign – presumably W.I. based. (There’s a grammatical error on it, but for its sheer blatant, archaic chauvinism, I had to have it – 20p)
A treasure chest and umpteen china cottages (Number Two bought these – so I’ve no idea how much of her pocket money she was diddled out of.)
A woolly jumper (30p)
A silk cardigan (ditto)
A pair of Nike shorts (ditto)
A pop-up/wind-up book (10p)
A plastic jug (50p)
Several t-shirts (£1)
…and a pair of gladiator sandals (new – not original, 40p)

We spent a total of approximately fourteen pounds, including the entrance fee, and had an afternoon of fun thrown in for that price, too. It was one of our more expensive forays into jumbling (I blame Big Seymour. He always gets carried away with electricals, and I’d have paid no more than a fiver for that Dyson), but the Little Seymours all came home happy.

Luckily, we narrowly avoided buying a smelly 80s leather golf bag with rusty clubs in it – phew! In fact, if it weren’t for the free ice hockey stick, Boy might have objected more. But he seemed happy with his new weapon. And Mini Seymour spent all day on Sunday traipsing around with her new toy dog. Which is awkward, as I’d really like to pop it on Ebay…

On Monday, I took a boot full of stuff to the recycling facility, to make room for the new clutter. It would have felt good if the space made hadn’t already been filled… but it’ll be worth it. I hope. Because when the new and improved Funny Little Bungalow finally rises from the ashes, what a fabulous load of interesting and unique curios we are going to be able to display!
From art deco bookends to vintage toys and out-dated misogynistic wall art, there won’t be a dull spot in the whole house. And with our growing collection of rescued furniture that we keep taking in to save it from being destroyed, there’ll be no shortage of sideboards to store it in.
But our homeless furniture obsession is another story. And one which can wait until next time…
Adieu.
