Boris, please! I know you have a gargantuan task ahead. I do. I don’t envy your responsibilities right now, I don’t. But seriously now. Seriously. Be brave. Let us out. I swear to God, this LOCKDOWN is killing us. Our teenagers, our little ones, our cancer patients, our mentally vulnerable. Me.
I understand that COVID is a threat. I know it, I can see the stats. But really… when you told us all a week or so ago it is ILLEGAL to go on holiday (which, of course, we already knew), I found myself choking on my disbelief at the world we are currently living in. FOR GOD’S SAKE. There are bigger threats out there Boris, my friend. If you’re worried about a backlash if you get this COVID thing wrong, stop a minute and realise, you are in a job that you can never get right. You simply can’t please everyone. Protect the NHS, of course. We have all by and large adhered to these Draconian rules to do just that. Our NHS staff are simply heroic. I love them. Always have, actually. I’ve never had any doubt how amazing they are – whether I’m clapping on a Thursday during a pandemic or not. They are the most valuable treasures in our country. If any of my kids end up working in the NHS, I will be so very proud. And I hear that uptake on nursing courses has gone through the roof. FANBLOODYTASTIC.
The Vaccination Program is simply epic. If any criticism comes your way, bandy that about. It’s amazing. World class. Phenomenal.
I remember during the bygone days of The Summer Lockdown, I hankered after a purpose. I could see the appeal of feeling needed – vital, even, at this historical, unprecedented time. That is not to say I didn’t feel glad I wasn’t on the front line. There go my split loyalties again… do I want to be saving lives, or safe at home with my kids? Anyway, anyway, I digress.
But, dear Boris, you are in danger of a whole load of other lawsuits, when suicides go through the roof, and people are literally dying of loneliness, isolation and despair…
Please let us have our lives back. We are waiting with bated breath to find out if and how we can proceed back to our freedoms. To see our families without fear of prosecution, to have a cuppa with our friends without freezing our tits off, maybe even to party, party, party… All the things that can alleviate depression and anxiety. The distractions of life that are so essential.
Please Boris. COVID is a thing, but so is freedom. Plenty of brave, innocent folk died to afford us our liberty.
I ask you: What would Winston Churchill do?
