So, I knew that this was a big project.
I understood that it would be long-winded and therefore, potentially, stressful.
Big Seymour has explained that it won’t be like the last place, where we lived in and around the work being done.
This time, we’d have to move out.
I nodded politely, but I had no real intention of accepting this piece of information. I mean, I’m not particularly bothered about holes in the wall and a bit of brick dust.
I never manage to keep myself or my children particularly tidy anyway.
Eventually, I reluctantly realised that it was true – we would be roofless, and therefore, probably better off out of our little bungalow.
We would be living in a caravan.
I imagined using our little touring caravan, as I supposed that we might only be out of the bungalow for a couple of weeks. Surely, we could manage it that way?
But after last year’s summer holiday, where Big Seymour and I were relegated to the awning as the caravan is now too small for all of us together, that idea was swiftly discarded.
So, a static caravan it was, then.
Last September, we had a look at one, and I admit, I did rather like the feel of it. In fact, we all did, and we even put a deposit down.
But, when we got home, we realised that it wouldn’t fit down the drive to the back garden, and the only option would be to set it up in the front garden, in full view of all the neighbours.
I wasn’t keen on that idea.
The deposit duly returned, we realised that any caravan would have to be only 10′ wide. This limited us in our search somewhat.

Meanwhile, I began to worry a little bit about the longevity of a caravan. Even if we could find one that would get down the garden, it sure as heck was never coming back out again.
It would sit down the bottom there and make itself useful, long after the build was complete. It would have to. They’re not cheap.
But caravans, as much as I love them, are caravans. They are not built to last. They are not very pretty and they get damp.
So, we began looking at sheds instead…
